MoneyGram International Responds to Chile Earthquake

Relief efforts include a grant to Pan American Development Foundation and free donation transactions to the American Red Cross.

MINNEAPOLIS, March 8, 2010 – MoneyGram International (NYSE:MGI), a leading global money transfer company, announced today a grant to the Pan American Development Foundation and free transactions for consumers in the U.S. sending cash donations to the American Red Cross, to help support recovery efforts from Chile’s devastating earthquake.

“MoneyGram has provided a $10,000 grant to help immediately supply food, water, and items for shelter to help Chileans continue their recovery and respond to the urgent needs in the communities devastated by the earthquake,” said Dan O’Malley, executive vice president of the Americas.

Throughout last week, MoneyGram worked closely with its agent Afex Cambios in Chile and today about 95 percent of agent locations are operational. In addition, MoneyGram activated its ExpressPayment® service to assist people in the U.S. to reliably make cash donations to the American Red Cross through April 12. Following the recent devastation in Haiti, MoneyGram’s ExpressPayment service has helped collect more than $85,000 in cash donations to the American Red Cross.

“Along with supporting immediate relief through the Pan American Development Foundation, our priority is to ensure our agents are open so needed funds can reach loved ones,” O’Malley said. “In addition, our relationship with the American Red Cross makes small cash donations possible for individuals concerned about these devastated communities. Together, we’re able to maximize relief efforts following disasters like the two devastating earthquakes this year.”

Anyone in the U.S. who wishes to support recovery in Chile can send funds to the American Red Cross from any MoneyGram ExpressPayment agent location in the United States for no fee through April 12. Customers can visit any agent location and use the Red Cross code 3728 to send a donation.
